Where to watch the sunrise in Aruba, and how to start the day well
Most visitors know Aruba's sunsets. Fewer see the sunrise, when the island is cool, quiet and soft pink.
What time is sunrise?
Aruba sits close to the equator, so the times barely change: sunrise is usually between about 6:30 and 7:00 am all year. Aim to arrive 20–30 minutes earlier for the best colors.
Where to watch it
San Nicolas and the southeast (Rodgers Beach, Boca Grandi). The island's southeastern tip faces the morning sun; San Nicolas is about 12 miles (20 km) from Oranjestad. Boca Grandi is wild and windy, so it's for watching, not swimming.
Baby Beach. A calm, half-moon lagoon nearby, good for a gentle swim once the sun is up.
California Lighthouse. On the high northern tip, with wide views over the island in the early light.
Palm Beach. If you're staying there, simply step out early: the sky over the water turns pink before the sun clears the island.
Make it a morning ritual
A sunrise feels even better with a little movement and breath. On Sattva you can book an early session that comes to you, at your hotel or villa:
Hatha Yoga in Aruba: gentle, steady, good for every level.
Vinyasa Yoga in Aruba: flowing movement to wake up the body.
Yin Yoga in Aruba: slow, long-held poses to ease into the day.
Choose the earliest open time on the experience page. Sessions start from about $120.
Good to know
Bring water and a light layer: early mornings can be breezy on the east side.
Some sunrise spots are remote. Go with a car, and leave nothing valuable in sight.
The sun is strong soon after it rises, so pack sunscreen for the rest of the morning.
